“At that time <5119> the kingdom <932> of heaven <3772> will be like <3666> ten <1176> virgins <3933> who <3748> took <2983> their <1438> lamps <2985> and went out <1831> to <1519> meet <5222> the bridegroom <3566>.
Five <4002> of <1537> the virgins <846> were <1510> foolish <3474>, and <2532> five <4002> were wise <5429>.
When the foolish ones <3474> took <2983> their <846> lamps <2985>, they did not <3756> take <2983> extra olive oil <1637> with <3326> them <1438>.
But <1161> the wise ones <5429> took <2983> flasks <30> of olive oil <1637> with <3326> their <1438> lamps <2985>.
When <1161> the bridegroom <3566> was delayed a long time <5549>, they <3573> all <3956> became drowsy <3573> and <2532> fell asleep <2518>.
But <1161> at midnight <3319> <3571> there was <1096> a shout <2906>, ‘Look <2400>, the bridegroom <3566> is here! Come out <1831> to <1519> meet <529> him.’
Then <5119> all <3956> the virgins <3933> woke up <1453> and <2532> trimmed <2885> their <1438> lamps <2985>.
The foolish ones <3474> said <3004> to the wise <5429>, ‘Give <1325> us <2254> some of <1537> your <5216> oil <1637>, because <3754> our <2257> lamps <2985> are going out <4570>.’
‘No,’ they replied <611>. ‘There won’t <3756> <3361> be enough <714> for you <5213> and <2532> for us <2254>. Go <4198> instead <3123> to <4314> those who sell <4453> oil and <2532> buy <59> some for yourselves <1438>.’
But <1161> while <565> they <846> had gone <565> to buy <59> it, the bridegroom <3566> arrived, and <2532> those who were ready <2092> went inside <1525> with <3326> him <846> to <1519> the wedding banquet <1062>. Then <2532> the door <2374> was shut <2808>.
Later <5305>, the other <3062> virgins <3933> came <2064> too, saying <3004>, ‘Lord <2962>, lord <2962>! Let <455> us <2254> in <455>!’
But <1161> he replied <2036>, replied <611>, ‘I tell <3004> you <5213> the truth <281>, I do <1492> not <3756> know <1492> you <5209>!’
Therefore <3767> stay alert <1127>, because <3754> you do <1492> not <3756> know <1492> the day <2250> or <3761> the hour <5610>.
“For <1063> it is like <5618> a man <444> going on a journey <589>, who summoned <2564> his <2398> slaves <1401> and <2532> entrusted <3860> his <846> property <5224> to them <846>.
To one <3739> he gave <1325> five <4002> talents <5007>, to another <3739> two <1417>, and <1161> to another <3739> one <1520>, each <1538> according <2596> to his <2398> ability <1411>. Then <2532> he went on his journey <589>.
The one who had received five <4002> talents <5007> went off right away <4198> and put <2983> his money to work <2038> and <2532> gained <2770> five <4002> more <243>.
In the same way <5615>, the one who had two <1417> gained <2770> two <1417> more <243>.
But <1161> the one who had received <2983> one talent <1520> went out <565> and dug a hole <3736> in the ground <1093> and <2532> hid <2928> his <846> master’s <2962> money <694> in it.
After <3326> a long <4183> time <5550>, the master <2962> of those <1565> slaves <1401> came <2064> and <2532> settled <4868> his <846> accounts <3056> with <3326> them <846>.
The one who had received <2983> the five <4002> talents <5007> came <4334> and brought <4374> five <4002> more <243>, saying <3004>, ‘Sir <2962>, you entrusted <3860> me <3427> with five <4002> talents <5007>. See <1492>, I have gained <2770> five <4002> more <243>.’
His <846> master <2962> answered <5346>, ‘Well done <2095>, good <18> and <2532> faithful <4103> slave <1401>! You have been <1510> faithful <4103> in <1909> a few things <3641>. I will put <2525> you <4571> in charge <2525> of <1909> many things <4183>. Enter <1525> into <1519> the joy <5479> of your <4675> master <2962>.’
The one with the two <1417> talents <5007> also came <4334> and <2532> said <2036>, ‘Sir <2962>, you entrusted <3860> two <1417> talents <5007> to me <3427>. See <1492>, I have gained <2770> two <1417> more <243>.’
His <846> master <2962> answered <5346>, ‘Well done <2095>, good <18> and <2532> faithful <4103> slave <1401>! You have been <1510> faithful <4103> with <1909> a few things <3641>. I will put <2525> you <4571> in charge <2525> of many things <4183>. Enter <1525> into <1519> the joy <5479> of your <4675> master <2962>.’
Then the one who had received <2983> the one <1520> talent <5007> came <4334> and said <2036>, ‘Sir <2962>, I knew <1097> that <3754> you <4571> were <1510> a hard <4642> man <444>, harvesting <2325> where <3699> you did <4687> not <3756> sow <4687>, and <2532> gathering <4863> where <3606> you did <1287> not <3756> scatter seed <1287>,
so <2532> I was afraid <5399>, and I went <565> and hid <2928> your <4675> talent <5007> in <1722> the ground <1093>. See <1492>, you have <2192> what is yours <4674>.’
But <1161> his <846> master <2962> answered <611> <2036>, ‘Evil <4190> and <2532> lazy <3636> slave <1401>! So you knew <1492> that <3754> I harvest <2325> where <3699> I <4687> didn’t <3756> sow <4687> and <2532> gather <4863> where <3606> I <1287> didn’t <3756> scatter <1287>?
Then you <4571> should <1163> have deposited <906> my <3450> money <694> with the bankers <5133>, and <2532> on my return <2064> I <1473> would <302> have received <2865> my money <1699> back with <4862> interest <5110>!
Therefore <3767> take <142> the talent <5007> from <575> him <846> and <2532> give <1325> it to the one who has <2192> ten <1176>.
For <1063> the one who has <2192> will be given <1325> more <3956>, and <2532> he will have more than enough <4052>. But <1161> the one who does <2192> not <3361> have <2192>, even <2532> what <3739> he has <2192> will be taken <142> from <575> him <846>.
And <2532> throw <1544> that worthless <888> slave <1401> into <1519> the outer <1857> darkness <4655>, where there <1563> will be <1510> weeping <2805> and <2532> gnashing <1030> of teeth <3599>.’
“When <3752> the Son <5207> of Man <444> comes <2064> in <1722> his <846> glory <1391> and <2532> all <3956> the angels <32> with <3326> him <846>, then <5119> he will sit <2523> on <1909> his <846> glorious <1391> throne <2362>.
All <3956> the nations <1484> will be assembled <4863> before <1715> him <846>, and <2532> he will separate <873> people <846> one <240> from <575> another <240> like <5618> a shepherd <4166> separates <873> the sheep <4263> from <575> the goats <2056>.
He will put <2476> the sheep <4263> on <1537> his <846> right <1188> and <1161> the goats <2055> on <1537> his left <2176>.
Then <5119> the king <935> will say <2046> to those on <1537> his <846> right <1188>, ‘Come, you <1205> who are blessed <2127> by my <3450> Father <3962>, inherit <2816> the kingdom <932> prepared <2090> for you <5213> from <575> the foundation <2602> of the world <2889>.
For <1063> I was hungry <3983> and <2532> you gave <1325> me <3427> food <5315>, I was thirsty <1372> and <2532> you gave <4222> me <3165> something to drink <4222>, I was <1510> a stranger <3581> and <2532> you invited <4863> me <3165> in,
I was naked <1131> and <2532> you gave <4016> me <3165> clothing <4016>, I was sick <770> and <2532> you took care <1980> of me <3165>, I was <1510> in <1722> prison <5438> and <2532> you visited <2064> <4314> me <3165>.’
Then <5119> the righteous <1342> will answer <611> him <846>, ‘Lord <2962>, when <4219> did we see <1492> you <4571> hungry <3983> and <2532> feed <5142> you, or <2228> thirsty <1372> and <2532> give <4222> you something to drink <4222>?
When <4219> did we see <1492> you <4571> a stranger <3581> and <2532> invite <4863> you in, or <2228> naked <1131> and <2532> clothe <4016> you?
When <4219> did we see <1492> you <4571> sick <770> or <2228> in <1722> prison <5438> and <2532> visit <2064> <4314> you <4571>?’
And <2532> the king <935> will answer <611> them <846>, ‘I tell <3004> you <5213> the truth <281>, just as <3745> you did <4160> it for one <1520> of the least <1646> of these <5130> brothers <80> or sisters of mine <3450>, you did <4160> it for me <1698>.’
“Then <5119> he will say <2046> to those on <1537> his left <2176>, ‘Depart <4198> from <575> me <1700>, you accursed <2672>, into <1519> the eternal <166> fire <4442> that has been prepared <2090> for the devil <1228> and <2532> his <846> angels <32>!
For <1063> I was hungry <3983> and <2532> you gave <1325> me <3427> nothing <3756> to eat <5315>, I was thirsty <1372> and <2532> you gave <4222> me <3165> nothing <3756> to drink <4222>.
I was <1510> a stranger <3581> and <2532> you did <4863> not <3756> receive <4863> me <3165> as a guest, naked <1131> and <2532> you did <4016> not <3756> clothe <4016> me <3165>, sick <772> and <2532> in <1722> prison <5438> and <2532> you did <1980> not <3756> visit <1980> me <3165>.’
Then <5119> they <846> too <2532> will answer <611> <3004>, ‘Lord <2962>, when <4219> did we see <1492> you <4571> hungry <3983> or <2228> thirsty <1372> or <2228> a stranger <3581> or <2228> naked <1131> or <2228> sick <772> or <2228> in <1722> prison <5438>, and <2532> did not <3756> give <1247> you whatever <1247> you <4671> needed <1247>?’
Then <5119> he will answer <611> them <846>, ‘I tell <3004> you <5213> the truth <281>, just as <3745> you did <4160> not <3756> do <4160> it for one <1520> of the least <1646> of these <5130>, you did <4160> not <3761> do <4160> it for me <1698>.’
And <2532> these <3778> will depart <565> into <1519> eternal <166> punishment <2851>, but <1161> the righteous <1342> into <1519> eternal <166> life <2222>.”
